Preview before you print

The RGB to CMYK preview runs a soft proof to show color shift so brand colors stay accurate on press.

Choose the right ICC profile, monitor ink limits, and note any spot color alternative when needed.

Plan your production route

Compare print simulation for coated vs uncoated stocks, then run files through the color contrast checker to protect legibility.

Use the DPI checker and bleed visualizer before sending to press.

Share with your team

Attach the preview to a digital proof, add it to your prepress checklist, and upload final art through the file uploader.

Free online — or free Human + AI assistance

Frequently asked questions

Why do colors shift?

RGB screens emit light and cover a wider color gamut than CMYK ink on paper, so bright blues, neon greens, and deep oranges often look duller after conversion. The RGB to CMYK preview simulates that shift so you can adjust art before plating. Expect some change on every job and plan brand colors with the color contrast checker before sending files to Cheap RUSH Printing.

Which ICC profile should I pick?

Start with GRACoL Coated v2 for gloss text and cover stocks, or SWOP Coated for general commercial work, then match the profile to the paper you select on your Cheap RUSH Printing order. Uncoated stocks need an uncoated ICC profile for a realistic preview. When in doubt, note the stock name in order comments and request a digital proof that reflects the final substrate.

Does this replace a press proof?

No, the on-screen soft proof reduces surprises but cannot replace a calibrated digital proof or physical press check on critical brand colors. Use the preview to fix obvious gamut issues early, then approve the Cheap RUSH Printing email proof as the contract for what prints. Spot colors and specialty finishes may still differ from the simulation.

Can I test ink limits?

Yes, the preview highlights total ink coverage so heavy shadow areas do not exceed recommended limits that cause drying problems or muddy neutrals on press. Lowering black generation or simplifying gradients before export keeps builds within tolerance. Combine ink limit review with the ink coverage estimator when you plan large solid backgrounds on brochures or posters.

Can your team do this for me instead of using the online tool?

Yes. The browser tool is free and private, but if you would rather not rely on it alone, upload your files via our complimentary file uploader and request Human + AI help with “RGB→CMYK”. Our prepress team will review manually — with AI assistance — and reply for free.
